Roots and history.
The unique building of the MASP, designed by the Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi, has been located on the Avenida Paulista since its opening in 1968. The cultural institution exists since 1947, the year of its foundation by Assis Chateaubriand and Pietro Maria Bardi.
It has the largest collection of western art in Latin America and in the Southern Hemisphere. Italian and French, African and Asian art, over 8000 works are kept in this Sao Paulo Monument.
